Studio Le & Mathieson

About

Studio Lê & Mathieson is an architectural design practice founded by An Le and Glenn Mathieson. Based in Vietnam, Studio pursues architecture through a collective and diverse team of designers, builders, and educators. We offer integrated architecture, interior design, and renovation, with the emphasis on adaptive reuse.

We dialogue between old and new, local traditions and global insights to create projects that are both practical and innovative—always deeply connected to their context and cultural narrative. Our design process emphasizes hand sketches and physical models, ensuring our work remains grounded in spatial exploration rather than purely digital development.

Before founding Studio, An Le worked across diverse roles—from builder to metal fabricator to architectural designer in North America. His experience spans projects ranging from small residential renovations to large-scale multi-housing buildings. He completed his architectural undergraduate studies at the College of Environmental Design in Berkeley, California, and received his Master's of Architecture (Professional) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

With 18 years in construction, Glenn transitioned into architecture to apply practical knowledge to design. His experience supports solutions that are both functional and well-considered. He works effectively independently or in teams, contributes through clear leadership, and values discussion and feedback. Detail-focused and pragmatic, he approaches projects with rational problem-solving and a commitment to effective outcomes. Glenn earned his Master’s of Architecture professional degree from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

Rebecca Waddell studied environmental science and microbiology in New Zealand, earning her Bachelor of Science from Massey University and a post-graduate diploma from the University of Waikato. Currently working as a science teacher and she serves as an environmental advisor at Studio, where she leads initiatives that promote sustainability and enhance the well-being of project users.
