This design and fabrication project was ordered by the architect in charge of a newly built residence in Richmond, California. The design needs to fit in various unique spaces that run along the outdoor circulation. We chose a 3mm Cor-Ten steel plate for the construction of the planter boxes. To achieve natural rust-like patina, a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, salt, and vinegar was applied to the outer surfaces with a sealant afterward to prevent further oxidation. The result was a rustic, modern appearance to complement the contemporary hardscape and the architecture of the residence itself. This project was in collaboration with V Studio.
